Japanese golfer Miyu Yamashita had a triumphant debut in Canada, securing victory at the CPKC Women’s Open in Edmonton. The 25-year-old clinched her fourth LPGA Tour win and second of the year with an impressive display at the Royal Mayfair Golf Club. Yamashita carded a remarkable 4-under-par 66 in the final round to finish at 23 under in the $2.75-million US event.
Maintaining a commanding lead of six strokes after three rounds, Yamashita ultimately triumphed by nine shots over compatriot Yuri Yoshida, who finished at 14 under. Expressing her joy, Yamashita, standing at just four-foot-11, credited the support she received from the Canadian fans, making her experience enjoyable throughout the tournament week.
Vancouver’s Anna Huang excelled as the top Canadian, posting a 5-under 65 to finish tied for fourth at 12 under. Calgary’s Aphrodite Deng, finishing at 11 under and tied for seventh, claimed the title of low amateur for the second consecutive year. Meanwhile, two-time champion Brooke Henderson settled for a tie for 13th at 7 under after carding an even par 70 in the final round.
Yamashita’s exceptional performance in Edmonton not only marked her as the fastest Japanese golfer to reach four LPGA wins but also tied the all-time lowest score on the LPGA Tour with a four-day total of 257. The top-10 finishes by Huang and Deng secured their spots in the upcoming LPGA’s FM Championship at TPC Boston in Norton, Massachusetts.
Reflecting on her experience, Huang expressed gratitude for the opportunity to compete in front of her home crowd and gain valuable insights from the event. The tournament also saw Michelle Xing, a talented 18-year-old amateur from Richmond Hill, finish strong at 3 under, while other Canadian players like Savannah Grewal and Clairey Lin concluded their campaign at 3-over par and 16-year-old amateur Clairey Lin at 3 over.
The CPKC Women’s Open, scheduled for 2027, will take place at the Royal Ottawa Golf Club in Gatineau, Quebec.
