A man who harassed film producer Barbara Broccoli, known for her work on James Bond movies, for a decade has been given an indefinite hospital order after she revealed that his actions compelled her to sell her family residence. Daniel Wilson, 37, unlawfully entered Ms. Broccoli’s home in 2016, causing her such distress that she decided to sell the property where she had resided for two decades, as disclosed in Southwark Crown Court.

Wilson breached a restraining order by leaving menacing Valentine’s Day voicemails stating, “I’ve got murder on my mind,” and by sharing Ms. Broccoli’s contact information with abusive messages on the internet. Additionally, he violated the order by posting inappropriate content online in the same month, as mentioned by Judge Christopher Hehir during Wilson’s sentencing.

The defendant admitted to stalking Ms. Broccoli causing serious distress between April 1, 2022, and February 14, 2025, along with two charges of breaching the no-contact order initially issued in 2017. In a separate case at Inner London Crown Court, Wilson pleaded guilty to affray and criminal damage for using a hammer to damage car and hospital windows in December 2023.

Wilson, a resident of Lambeth, South London, was given an indefinite Section 37 hospital order with a concurrent Section 41 restriction for each offense. The judge also issued a deprivation order for the hammer used during the 2023 incident.

The court revealed that Wilson developed an obsessive interest in Ms. Broccoli after their acquaintance at the same sixth form college, which ended in 2009. His fixation escalated to the point where he believed she owed him money for a bust of her father, Albert “Cubby” Broccoli, the original producer of James Bond films.

Wilson’s fixation culminated in a break-in at Ms. Broccoli’s London residence in 2016, resulting in significant damage. During the break-in, Ms. Broccoli’s friends present in the house had to secure themselves in a room while Wilson barricaded himself inside until law enforcement intervened. Ms. Broccoli was not present during the incident.

Ms. Broccoli expressed her constant fear for personal safety in court, stating that she always feels on edge and watches her back. Wilson’s persistent delusions about Ms. Broccoli were evident during the court proceedings, prompting the judge to disconnect the video link from Wandsworth Prison.

Regarding the stalking behaviors, prosecutor Arabella MacDonald highlighted the relentless and distressing nature of Wilson’s campaign, involving numerous messages via various communication channels, ranging from strange to threatening. Wilson’s psychiatric condition, possibly exacerbated by substance abuse, poses risks of psychological distress and physical violence to the public, as testified by expert witnesses.

Wilson’s restraining order, initially imposed in 2017, prohibited any contact with Ms. Broccoli. Ms. Broccoli took over control of the James Bond franchise in 1995 and, along with her half-brother, Michael G Wilson, produced several successful Bond movies. Last year, it was announced that they would be transferring control of the franchise to Amazon MGM Studios.

Wilson faced multiple charges of breaching the restraining order and admitted to affray and criminal damage in a separate incident. His psychiatric condition and history of substance abuse were key factors considered during the legal proceedings.
