A young woman was rushed to the hospital and informed that she had only a few hours left to live before uncovering her husband’s sinister secret.

Hannah Pettey, aged 25, had been unwell for half a year, spending most of the week leading up to her hospital admission confined to her bed. One day, feeling seriously unwell, she contacted her mother, Nicole, expressing concern about her deteriorating health. Nicole promptly took her daughter to the doctors. Initially, medical professionals did not detect anything abnormal and were prepared to discharge her until Hannah insisted that she would not survive if sent home. Subsequently, on January 18, 2022, Hannah experienced a seizure and remained unconscious for forty-eight hours.

Following the incident, doctors placed Hannah in a medically induced coma and conducted essential tests to diagnose her condition.

In an interview with CBS News, Nicole recounted the devastating news relayed by doctors, stating, “She was skin and bones… they informed me that she was essentially starving to death and had only a few hours left.” After an agonizing eight-day wait, medical professionals informed Hannah, hailing from Alabama, that she had an excessive amount of lead in her system.

Nicole remarked, “There was no space in her stomach for anything. It was entirely filled with lead, and her bones also contained lead throughout.”

Medical experts believed it was implausible for Hannah to have ingested such a significant amount of lead accidentally. Consequently, authorities initiated an investigation involving Hannah’s husband, Brian Mann, and Nicole.

The investigation uncovered a disturbing truth – Hannah’s husband had been poisoning her. Despite Hannah’s belief that Mann, a chiropractor, was caring, his actions were revealed to be a covert attempt on her life. Law enforcement revealed that Mann had been providing Hannah with potentially tampered vitamins.

Reflecting on the ordeal, Hannah recounted a night when she was in excruciating pain and nauseous, with Mann urging her to take the vitamins he had left on her nightstand.

Upon her recovery, Hannah initially hesitated to divorce her husband but changed her mind after discussions with the police. She also cooperated with authorities in further investigating Mann, discovering that he had acquired life insurance policies on her even before their marriage.

Subsequent revelations disclosed that Mann had increased his life insurance claims while Hannah fought for her life in the hospital, amounting to approximately £3 million in potential payouts upon her demise.

Further investigations revealed that Mann had commissioned the installation of a lead-lined X-ray machine in his clinic, with a contractor affirming Mann’s intention to dispose of the excess lead himself.

In August 2025, Mann was convicted of attempted murder and sentenced to life imprisonment. Despite his conviction, Mann maintains his innocence and accuses Nicole of poisoning Hannah. However, both women vehemently deny these allegations.
