A fire involving a lorry has led to significant disruptions on the M4, resulting in the closure of two westbound lanes. Drivers passing through the Slough area have been advised of a diversion in place starting from Junction 6.
The Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed their response to the incident, with visual evidence showing firefighters actively combating the blaze engulfing a large HGV. The affected section of the M4, between Junction 6 for Slough and Junction 8/9 for Maidenhead, remains inaccessible following the earlier HGV fire.
As of now, there is no specified time for the reopening of the affected lanes. A statement by National Highways mentioned that the HGV was transporting hay, necessitating efforts by fire crews to thoroughly dampen the load to prevent any potential reignition.
The closure on the M4 Westbound, between Maidenhead and Slough, is still evident according to Google Traffic data. Service providers are on-site with a grab lorry to aid in removing barrels from the trailer, a measure taken to contain the fire and prevent its spread to unaffected areas.
The closure of the M4 westbound between Junction 6 in Slough and Junctions 8/9 in Maidenhead has been in effect since Thursday afternoon, causing delays of up to 60 minutes as confirmed by National Highways. The ongoing incident near Windsor involves crews from various fire stations working to extinguish the flames.
Motorists are urged to follow designated diversion routes following the closure, which involves exiting at Junction 6 onto the A355 southbound, then transitioning to the A332, and eventually rejoining the M4 westbound at Holyport Interchange. National Highways have deployed resources to manage the traffic situation in the affected area.
