Troops have discovered a significant Hezbollah drone production facility underground, near the Lebanon border with Israel, as a fragile peace settles in the area.

The tunnel network was found just four miles north of the Israeli border, where militants were secretly assembling deadly Iranian Kamikaze drones. The complex was located beneath the village of Majdal Zoun, an area previously captured by Israel’s forces early in the conflict, and the drones are now being dismantled.

Amid ongoing ceasefires between Iran and southern Lebanon, tensions rose during peace negotiations in Switzerland, particularly due to the US President Donald Trump’s strong statements. Israel’s reluctance to commit to refraining from attacking southern Lebanon, citing threats from Hezbollah, has stalled talks. An unofficial truce has been unofficially agreed upon by Israel and Hezbollah as Swiss negotiations concluded, with a transition to 60 days of discussions with Iran.

Despite objections from Israel, a US-Iran memorandum of understanding did not exclude Lebanon, with Israel emphasizing its right to self-defense. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar expressed Israel’s commitment to the ceasefire as long as Hezbollah reciprocates, emphasizing the need to safeguard its citizens against potential Hezbollah incursions.

The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon has jeopardized peace talks, with Trump eager to resolve the Iran situation. Iran has expressed frustration with the US delegation, led by inexperienced individuals, including real estate businessman Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, for their lack of professionalism and perceived bias towards Israel.

A weekend marked by intense violence in Lebanon concluded with ceasefires in both Iran and Beirut territories as Swiss peace talks wrapped up, leading to a 60-day negotiation period. The recent clashes resulted in casualties, including five Israeli soldiers. Following 18 hours of Iran peace talks, Tehran warned the US against further threats after Trump’s remarks regarding the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump’s provocative social media comments prompted Iran to briefly halt talks, but mediators from Pakistan and Qatar outlined a path to a resolution within 60 days. The flow of ships through the Strait remains restricted, affecting trade vessels in the region. Analysts at the UK-based research center highlighted the strategic dilemma facing Israel in responding to Hezbollah’s violations of the ceasefire, potentially risking discord with the US or facing increased threats from Hezbollah.
