The series “Heated Rivalry” is expanding its star-studded cast for the upcoming second season. The Canadian-produced hockey drama, which gained worldwide popularity in its first season and launched the careers of lead actors Hudson Williams, Connor Storrie, and François Arnaud, has announced the addition of three new cast members.
Recently revealed rookie additions to the cast include Ukrainian-American actress Milla Jovovich, known for her roles in the “Resident Evil” franchise and the sci-fi classic “The Fifth Element.” Joining her are Kevin Zegers, hailing from Woodstock, Ont., recognized for his work in “Gossip Girl” and “Transamerica,” and Paul Gross, a prominent figure in Canadian film, television, and theater, famous for projects like “Due South” and “Men With Brooms.”
The author of the “Game Changers” books, Nova Scotia’s Rachel Reid, expressed excitement over the casting news. The series, inspired by Reid’s books, revolves around the clandestine romance between two competitive young hockey players, Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov.
In the upcoming season, Paul Gross will portray hockey league commissioner Roger Crowell, while Kevin Zegers takes on the role of Coach Wiebe, the head of the Ottawa Centaurs team. Milla Jovovich will play Dr. Galina Molchalina, a therapist supporting Rozanov through his journey.
Additionally, Bell Media has confirmed the return of Season 1 actors Robbie G.K., Sophie Nélisse, Christina Chang, and Dylan Walsh to their respective roles. The new season will also feature a host of Canadian talent, including Charlie Gillespie, Daniel Diemer, Emily Hampshire, and Priyanka.
Emily Hampshire, known for her role in “Schitt’s Creek,” expressed her delight at being part of the series, emphasizing her close relationship with the show’s creator and director, Jacob Tierney. Hampshire noted the immense success of “Heated Rivalry,” comparing it to the international acclaim received by “Schitt’s Creek.”
While “Heated Rivalry” will not be eligible for this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards, lead actor Connor Storrie is in the running for his hosting performance on “Saturday Night Live.” The series dominated the Canadian Screen Awards this year, winning 13 awards, including Best Drama and Best Lead Performer for Hudson Williams.
Filming for the second season commenced on August 17, with a scheduled premiere on Crave in Spring 2027.
