The family of a man who tragically passed away after being hit by a car on Christmas Eve have placed heartfelt tributes at the site of the incident. Simon, aged 55, was fatally struck by a black Mini Cooper on Marine Drive near Hesketh Road in Southport early on Wednesday morning. Merseyside Police responded to the scene following reports of a pedestrian-car collision at around 5:30 am. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the authorities, according to reports from Liverpool Echo.
In memory of Simon, his loved ones have left flowers, cards, and mince pies at the location. Among the tributes was a card with a message: “Rest in peace Simon. Lots of love, Louise, Kat, TJ, and dogs xxx.” Additionally, a Christmas card dedicated to the victim as “a very special brother” was placed alongside flowers and a poster stating: “There’s a brand new star in heaven.” Despite part of the message being obscured by police tape, it continued with words reflecting on the cherished memories shared.
Detective Sergeant Andy Roper, representing Merseyside Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, expressed condolences to the victim’s family and emphasized the ongoing support being provided by the police’s family liaison officers. An investigation into the circumstances of the man’s death has been initiated, with a focus on determining the sequence of events leading to the collision. Sergeant Roper urged anyone who witnessed the incident or was in the vicinity around the time to come forward with any relevant information or dashcam footage that could aid the investigation.
