A purported “prison postcard” found in the Epstein files, believed to be penned by Jeffrey Epstein to Larry Nassar, the notorious US gymnastics doctor, has been deemed a forgery by the FBI.

The postcard, dated August 13, 2019, and supposedly dispatched from prison, contains a message saying, “Dear L.N., as you are aware, I have chosen the ‘short route’ home. Best of luck! We share a common interest… our fondness and concern for young women in the hope that they achieve their full potential.

“Our president also shares our fondness for young, attractive girls. When a youthful beauty passed by, he liked to ‘grab snatch,’ while we settled for grabbing food in the prison mess halls. Life is unjust. Yours, J. Epstein.”

The postcard writer did not specify which president they were alluding to. Donald Trump, who was the president when the postcard was written, has consistently denied any misconduct.

Despite being part of the official document release, the FBI has dismissed the postcard as fake, citing disparities in handwriting and postmarking.

The Department of Justice issued a statement just before 3:30 pm on Tuesday, stating, “The FBI has verified that this alleged letter from Jeffrey Epstein to Larry Nassar is NOT authentic. The phony letter was received by the prison and flagged to the FBI at that time. The FBI based their conclusion on the following facts.

“The handwriting does not match that of Jeffrey Epstein. The postmark on the letter is dated three days after Epstein’s passing and is from Northern Virginia, though he was incarcerated in New York.

“The return address did not specify the prison where Epstein was held and did not include his inmate number, a requirement for outgoing mail. This falsified letter serves as a caution that the release of a document by the Department of Justice does not guarantee the accuracy of the allegations or claims within it. Nevertheless, the DOJ will continue to disclose all necessary material as mandated by law.”

Nassar, who served as the team doctor for the US women’s national gymnastics team and was a well-known sex offender, was housed at a facility in Sumterville, near Orlando, Florida, at the time of the alleged Epstein letter. He had been transferred from a federal prison in Tucson, Arizona, in August 2018, following an assault on him as reported by his attorneys. The return to sender stamp indicated that the addressee was ‘no longer’ at that location.

Though this is the first time the postcard has been made public during the DOJ’s extensive release of Epstein-related evidence, the Associated Press had previously mentioned its existence in 2023.
