A father expresses his outrage over a potential breach of his daughter’s medical records by ambulance staff during her recovery from a serious injury in the Southport attack. This incident has led to calls for a comprehensive review by NHS England regarding the handling of patient data by healthcare personnel.
The girl, known as Child 6, was 13 years old when she was attacked while attending a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in July 2024 but fortunately survived the ordeal. Tragically, three other young girls lost their lives in the same attack.
The family discovered possible unauthorized access to their daughter’s records by North West Ambulance Service staff while reviewing documents provided by University Hospital Liverpool Group. The ambulance service acknowledged the issue and has taken steps to enhance their internal processes.
Fletchers Solicitors, representing the survivors of the incident, is investigating the breaches at Aintree Hospital and the ambulance service. The father expressed dismay over the invasion of privacy during his daughter’s critical moments and raised concerns about the handling of sensitive information without consent.
Legal representatives emphasized the need for a thorough review of NHS policies on patient data breaches to prevent unauthorized access by healthcare professionals. They highlighted the importance of transparency and accountability in disclosing such breaches to patients, citing past instances where staff faced consequences for similar actions.
The family remains uncertain about the extent of the breach and the potential viewing of their daughter’s injuries by hospital staff. They called for stronger measures to safeguard patient data and ensure that only authorized personnel can access sensitive information.
In response, the Chief Executive of North West Ambulance Service assured a formal investigation into the matter and pledged to address any inappropriate access to patient records. The organization expressed regret for the distress caused and promised to keep affected families informed as the investigation progresses.
