In a startling turn of events, a father has admitted guilt in the deaths of his son and girlfriend with a grin on his face. David Huff, 43, confessed to fatally shooting 32-year-old Yeraldith Tschudy and 11-year-old Jeremiah Huff in Syracuse, New York State back in March 2025. During the court proceedings, Huff was reported to have smirked and chuckled as the charges were read out by Judge Ted Limpert.
When questioned by Judge Limpert about his demeanor, Huff claimed he had a joke on his mind. Despite denying shooting his son in the face, he owned up to both murders, according to 13 ABC reports. “I’m guilty of all that,” Huff stated. “Whatever you guys say, I’m guilty of.”
Both victims were killed by a 12-gauge shotgun, and investigators noted that Huff’s stepfather was also targeted in the incident. The tragedy unfolded after Jeremiah’s mother, Samantha Gallup Peltier, received a distressing call from her son just prior to the fatal shootings.
Following the crimes, Huff fled the scene but was apprehended by state police the next morning around 9:30 am. Despite claims of mental health issues, experts concluded that any incapacity Huff may have had was self-induced through substance abuse rather than a pre-existing condition.
Huff, deemed fit to stand trial, opted to plead guilty to second-degree charges instead of facing first-degree murder charges. This decision may potentially lead to a chance at parole when he is sentenced. In New York State, parole can be granted for second-degree murder convictions after serving a specified term and meeting the Board of Parole’s criteria.
The sentencing for Huff will take place at a later date.
