NIE Networks reported significant damage to the electricity networks, prompting an escalated response effort with additional call agents deployed to handle customer queries. In the Republic of Ireland, about 184,000 homes, farms, and businesses experienced power outages, primarily in counties Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Roscommon, Leitrim, Cavan, and Donegal, with the expectation of further disruptions.
The UK Met Office issued warnings of wind speeds reaching up to 80mph along coastal areas, leading to potential hazards like fallen trees and power outages. Northern Ireland faced a yellow wind warning and a rain warning, with the possibility of flooding. An amber wind warning was specifically issued for Antrim, Fermanagh, Tyrone, and Londonderry, prompting school closures for safety reasons.
Storm Amy is forecasted to bring damaging winds during the late afternoon and evening, with gusts reaching 60-70mph inland and up to 80mph along exposed coastlines. The Met Office cautioned that power outages could impact services like mobile phone coverage in the affected areas.
