A man has passed away after sustaining gunshot injuries, and a woman is currently hospitalized following a shooting incident that occurred at a park in the UK.
The Metropolitan Police responded promptly to an emergency at Clissold Park in Stoke Newington, north London, just after 7 pm. Medical personnel attended to a man and a woman, both in their 40s, on-site before transporting them to a hospital where the man was tragically pronounced dead. The condition of the woman remains undisclosed at this time, as stated by the authorities.
In an official statement, the Met Police confirmed the sequence of events, stating, “Police officers reacted to reports of a shooting at Clissold Park, N16 at 19:06hrs on Wednesday, 17 September. A woman in her 40s received medical attention from paramedics of the London Ambulance Service and the London Air Ambulance. She was subsequently hospitalized, and updates on her condition are pending. A man in his 40s also received medical treatment for gunshot wounds. Despite efforts by paramedics, he was later declared deceased at the hospital. Investigations are ongoing to locate his next of kin.”
Law enforcement recovered a firearm believed to be linked to the incident at the park, confirming, “A gun suspected to be connected to the event was safely retrieved at the scene.”
Detective Superintendent Oliver Richter, overseeing policing in Hackney and Tower Hamlets, disclosed that the individuals involved in the incident were acquainted and emphasized that it is considered an “isolated event.”
Richter remarked, “We recognize the distressing nature of this incident for those directly involved, witnesses in the park, and the local community. Our investigation is in its early stages, but we understand that the man and woman were acquainted. Presently, we are treating this as an isolated occurrence with no broader threat to public safety. Law enforcement is diligently piecing together the circumstances surrounding the incident and offering support to those impacted. A designated crime scene is under investigation with heightened police presence.”
