An incident is currently unfolding at an international airport, where travelers have been targeted, resulting in at least one fatality.
Graphic footage from inside Ecuador’s José Joaquín de Olmedo airport has surfaced online, showing a scene of chaos with distraught individuals tending to the injured and deceased.
Social media also carried a disturbing eyewitness account of a violent altercation within Guayaquil’s airport, describing a significant exchange of gunfire and multiple casualties.
Local reports indicate that on Wednesday, June 17, a man was killed near the entrance of the international airport in what appears to be an assassination attempt.
The attack, which resulted in one fatality and one injury, took place in the international arrivals departure area of the José Joaquín de Olmedo airport, where armed individuals allegedly carried out the assault.
Initial reports suggest that the deceased individual, believed to be the target of the attack, had just arrived at the Ecuadorian airport with his wife when the incident occurred. The injured party has been promptly transported to a medical facility for treatment.
Authorities from Ecuador’s Ministry of the Interior have confirmed that two suspects have been apprehended in the airport terminal’s parking area following the attack.
This shooting incident comes shortly after Ecuador declared a state of emergency in 10 provinces due to a surge in gang-related violence and organized criminal activities.
