Residents in Fife were startled by a powerful explosion that resulted from a fire engulfing several trucks. Firefighters are currently working to contain a significant blaze at Methil harbor following the intense blast.
The fire ignited at Methil harbor in Fife on Sunday, December 21, at approximately 9:11 am when multiple heavy goods vehicles suddenly caught fire. Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene to combat the flames.
At present, seven fire engines are on-site battling the fire, with the presence of police and ambulance crews also noted. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries so far.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) has advised the public to steer clear of the area and advised local residents to seal their windows and doors as a precautionary measure.
Witnesses reported hearing a deafening noise before emergency services descended on the area. Some individuals mentioned seeing the billowing smoke from a distance.
A witness shared an online image, describing how the explosion reverberated through their residence, emphasizing the swift response of the emergency services present.
Images from the harbor depict thick smoke enveloping the vicinity as a lone firefighter valiantly directs a hose towards the flames. Another photo shows dense black smoke rising above the orange blaze, with firefighters positioned strategically in the area.
Local authorities confirmed the temporary closure of the road, which has since been reopened. However, residents are still advised to avoid the area and keep their windows shut.
A spokesperson from Police Scotland stated, “Emergency services are currently at the scene following a vehicle fire in the Harbour View area of Methil, reported around 9:20 am on Sunday, December 21. The fire is under control, and there are no reported injuries.”
The SFRS spokesperson detailed the response to the incident, mentioning the dispatch of seven fire appliances to address the fire. They reiterated the importance of avoiding the area due to the smoke and advised locals to secure their residences by closing windows and doors.
