The 79-year-old man, originally from Germany but residing in the area for an extended period, was found after concerns were raised by neighbors about a strong odor emanating from his flat. Firefighters had to access the property via a ladder, breaking through a glass door to enter. The man, who lived alone and was known for his timely bill payments, was found after his landlord raised the alarm when he failed to respond to calls and knocks on the door.
Local residents and tourists gathered outside the locked flat as emergency services worked to gain entry. The discovery of the body was swiftly confirmed once firefighters entered the premises. It is believed that the man died of natural causes.
In a separate incident in April 2026, a British expat couple was found in a rural property in Cala Mesquida, Majorca, after they missed a scheduled boat trip. Tragically, the man was found deceased, while his wife was in critical condition due to carbon monoxide poisoning from a faulty appliance.
Instances like these are not uncommon in regions where elderly or solitary expatriates reside with limited local support networks. The delay in discovery can span several days or even weeks, as seen in previous cases, such as that of two British pensioners found deceased in San Fulgencio last year.
