Detectives have initiated a homicide inquiry in response to a deadly attack at Charing Cross Hospital in Hammersmith, London.
The incident occurred on Thursday, September 18, prompting Metropolitan Police officers to respond to a situation involving a patient being assaulted by another patient at the hospital. Tragically, the victim, an 85-year-old man named Andrew Farmer from Ealing, succumbed to severe injuries on Thursday, September 25. His family has been informed and is receiving support from specialized officers.
A 70-year-old man, Anatoliy Podmazko, with no fixed address, was apprehended shortly after the assault at the hospital. Podmazko was charged on Saturday, September 20, with causing grievous bodily harm. His next court appearance is scheduled for Friday, October 17, at Isleworth Crown Court. The authorities are collaborating with the Crown Prosecution Service as the case progresses.
Reflecting on the loss, Paul Wrigley, Andrew’s partner, expressed, “My partner of 60 years, a constant companion through all challenges. Andrew excelled in various pursuits, such as opera, Devon topography, and aiding the underprivileged. He possessed scholarly attributes with a delightful sense of humor. Rest in peace, my dear friend.”
Detective Inspector Kirsten Hadleigh, heading the investigation, conveyed, “Our condolences go out to Andrew’s family and friends during this undoubtedly trying period. We are maintaining regular communication with Andrew’s loved ones to provide updates on our investigative efforts.”
