An elderly British man tragically passed away when his vehicle caught fire in Cyprus. The incident occurred in Avgorou, a region in the southwest of the country, after the car became stuck in mud.

The 88-year-old driver was en route to an animal shelter accompanied by his dog and caregiver when they took a wrong turn onto a dirt road. In an attempt to free the vehicle, sparks from the car ignited dry reeds nearby, leading to a fire that quickly engulfed the car on Saturday.

Despite the caregiver’s efforts to escape and advise the man to leave the vehicle, the driver insisted she seek help. Following the extinguishing of the fire, the man’s body was discovered outside the passenger door, indicating he had tried to flee the flames.

Tragically, the man’s dog also perished in the blaze. An investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the incident, with a recent post-mortem examination confirming the man’s cause of death as burning.

The man resided in Pachna, a village in southern Cyprus, as reported by Cyprus Mail.
