A dog trainer in Orange County, California, named Kwong ‘Tony’ Chun Sit, was found guilty of killing 11 dogs by leaving them in a hot van for an extended period before attempting to cover up the incident by burning their bodies. Sit, who ran the Happy K9 Academy, was convicted on 11 counts of animal cruelty and additional charges related to evidence destruction and obstructing the investigation.
His girlfriend, Tingfeng Liu, was also implicated in the crime and found guilty of being an accessory to a crime, destroying evidence, and attempting to destroy evidence. The dogs, kept in small crates in the hot van, succumbed to heat stroke, with one of them, Rosie, a sheepdog poodle puppy, also suffering blunt force trauma. Sit later posed as the dogs’ owners to have them cremated.
District Attorney Todd Spitzer condemned their actions, stating that the dogs’ worst fear of abandonment became a tragic reality due to the couple’s cruelty. He emphasized the severe consequences awaiting those who mistreat animals, especially those who cause harm to innocent creatures.
The Irvine Police Department initiated an investigation after the owners received messages informing them of their pets’ deaths and cremations. Sit sent messages to the owners impersonating compassion and offering refunds and additional compensation while deceitfully arranging for the dogs’ cremations to hide the truth.
The couple’s attempt to conceal their crimes by depositing the dogs’ bodies at various crematoriums in the area was unsuccessful, as the dog owners reported the suspicious messages to the authorities, leading to the unraveling of the disturbing incident.
