LISTEN | FRONT BURNER:

Over the weekend, Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon resulted in the deaths of at least 11 individuals, as reported by the country’s health ministry. This incident marked the deadliest attack since a tenuous ceasefire was agreed upon in June to cease hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, although sporadic attacks have persisted.

In addition to the aerial bombings and drone strikes, inhabitants and emergency responders in the area have accused Israeli military forces of purposefully initiating wildfires that have been devastating homes, woodlands, and olive orchards across the strife-torn region.

This situation has raised concerns among local residents about their ability to remain in the area and the prospects of the hundreds of thousands who have been displaced by the conflict ever being able to return.

Will Christou, a correspondent for The Guardian stationed in Beirut, has been covering the wildfires and the broader Israeli military activities in southern Lebanon.
