CrossCountry has updated its Christmas timetable in response to strikes announced last month, bringing clarity to travelers. The train operator will resume its normal timetable on Saturday, December 6, following the suspension of the planned industrial action. This means that regular services are expected on December 6, 13, 20, and 27.
Shiona Rolfe, CrossCountry’s Managing Director, expressed relief that the RMT had called off the December strikes, welcoming passengers for the festive season. While aiming to operate a standard timetable on Saturdays, Rolfe cautioned about possible short-notice cancellations due to the limited time available for reinstating services.
Despite the updates, Rolfe noted that engineering work on certain parts of the network might lead to journey alterations. The RMT union had initially announced the strike on November 21, citing unresolved issues on pay, staffing, and previous commitments by CrossCountry.
Eddie Dempsey, RMT general secretary, stated that the core disputes remained unaddressed, with the proposed resolution being less favorable than previous offers. As a result, RMT members felt compelled to strike due to ongoing staffing shortages, unfair pay outcomes, and unmet commitments. Dempsey emphasized the need for CrossCountry to present a substantial offer that upholds previous commitments and treats their members fairly and respectfully.
