England cricketer Jonny Bairstow has reached out to Sir Keir Starmer for assistance while facing difficulties in Dubai amidst the escalating situation in the Middle East. Bairstow, part of England’s development team under the guidance of Andrew Flintoff, was stranded in the United Arab Emirates where matches against the Pakistan Shaheens were scheduled.

The planned Lions’ game against Pakistan was called off due to the heightened conflict in the region. Ongoing military actions involving the US, Israel, and Iran have led to airport closures, trapping tourists in Dubai. The city has witnessed retaliatory strikes from Iran, including an incident at Dubai International Airport, preventing the cricket team from returning home.

Taking to social media, Bairstow sought help, urging anyone with information in Dubai to assist and emphasizing safety. He tagged the Prime Minister, the British embassy in the UAE, and also directly reached out to Starmer, questioning the possibility of facilitating their return.

In response, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) assured that they are prioritizing the safety of their teams and staff, closely monitoring the situation in the Middle East. They have postponed an upcoming women’s trip to Abu Dhabi as a precautionary measure.

The impact of the conflict extends to other sports figures, with former Premier League manager Graeme Souness sharing his own stranded situation on social media. The military actions’ repercussions could potentially affect the upcoming World Cup in North America, with reports of the Supreme Leader of Iran being killed in airstrikes.

Mehdi Taj, the president of the Iranian Football Federation, expressed uncertainty about their team’s participation in the summer tournament following recent events. Taj highlighted the challenges posed by the US attack, casting doubt on Iran’s involvement in the competition.
