The Prince of Wales has received accolades from Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett for his remarkable leadership on climate issues. Blanchett, known for her role as Queen Elizabeth I in the film “Elizabeth,” collaborated with Prince William on the Earthshot Prize Council, a platform he established to explore technological solutions for the climate crisis.
Describing the future king as an outstanding leader, Blanchett highlighted his hands-on approach and dedication inherited from his predecessor. She commended his consistent and practical engagement with environmental initiatives. The actress shared her experiences with Prince Charles in the September edition of Harper’s Bazaar UK, on sale starting August 6.
William and Cate have previously partnered on various occasions, including a visit to Norwich where they toured laboratories focused on producing sustainable fabric dye. During the visit to Colorifix’s facilities, which were an Earthshot Prize finalist in 2023, William joked about his chemistry lessons and marveled at the DNA sequencing of natural colors.
Blanchett praised the educational experience at Colorifix and commended the startup’s progress since being recognized by the Earthshot Prize. The duo has also attended events together, such as the Hobbit film premiere in 2012, the Earthshot Prize awards in Singapore in 2023, and the BAFTAs in 2024.
Prince William, a vocal advocate for climate action, recently expressed optimism at the London Climate Action Week. He highlighted the impact of his Earthshot Prize finalists in addressing environmental challenges. The Earthshot Prize, initiated in 2020 to span a decade, awards £5 million annually to innovative solutions combating climate change, alongside mentorship and support for winners.
