Britons have shared their reasons for visiting Turkey for cosmetic procedures, ranging from dental work to breast enhancements. The Mirror interviewed a group of friends from Bournemouth who had saved up to undergo dental treatments known as “Turkey teeth” in Istanbul.

One of the friends, Lidz Jolly, aged 52, explained her decision to travel for dental care, stating that she had only two molars left for chewing, which did not meet properly. She had these removed and planned to return in a few months to complete the treatment after saving enough money.

Similarly, other individuals like Paul Moss, 53, and Jody Hall, 45, also traveled to Turkey for dental implants, highlighting the cost savings compared to getting the procedures done in England. Despite the financial benefits, some patients faced challenges finding NHS dentists willing to provide post-surgery care due to the complexity of the procedures and potential financial losses for the dentists.

Despite the known risks, many Britons continue to opt for affordable cosmetic surgeries in Turkey. A study in 2022 revealed that a significant number of patients developed complications post-surgery, with the majority requiring NHS intervention, particularly those who had procedures done in Turkey.

One patient, Laura Flemming, 29, shared her experience of undergoing a breast uplift and implant in Istanbul as part of a holiday package. She expressed her initial concerns about the procedure but emphasized her desire for the transformation.

The Mirror is advocating to regulate the cosmetic surgery industry following reports of sepsis-related deaths and complications among patients. Tragic incidents, including the death of individuals like Kaydell Brown, 38, underline the importance of addressing the risks associated with cosmetic procedures.

Cosmetic surgery clinics in Istanbul collaborate with major hotel chains to offer package deals for medical tourists. Patients are seen recovering at hotels post-surgery, with some requiring assistance due to discomfort and pain.

The allure of affordable cosmetic surgeries in Turkey has attracted individuals like Kaitlin Jackson, 31, who aspires to undergo a tummy tuck. She noted the changing attitudes towards cosmetic enhancements, with more people embracing body positivity and taking steps to enhance their appearance.

In conclusion, the trend of seeking cosmetic treatments abroad persists despite the associated risks and challenges. The experiences shared by individuals undergoing procedures in Turkey highlight the complex dynamics of medical tourism and the personal motivations behind cosmetic transformations.
