A female British tourist was abducted and sexually assaulted in Mallorca while on vacation, prompting a police investigation. The incident occurred in the early hours of May 10 in Palma, the capital of the island. The victim was walking back to her hotel when a van driver approached her, forcibly pulled her into the vehicle, and assaulted her.
Following the victim’s complaint, the National Police arrested a man on charges of sexual assault for allegedly groping the woman. The Family and Women’s Care Unit (UFAM) of the National Police initiated an investigation based on the victim’s report, detailing the assault by the van driver during the early hours of May 10.
The victim reported leaving a leisure establishment in Palma’s Paseo Marítimo area and being attacked during her walk back to the hotel. The assailant drove recklessly with the victim in the passenger seat, groping her at red lights. Witnesses in a nearby car noticed the abduction and attempted to assist by following the van and capturing its license plate.
Subsequent efforts by the UFAM led to the arrest of the suspect as the alleged perpetrator of the sexual assault crime. The accused appeared before a judge in Palma for preliminary proceedings. Further information about the victim’s escape from the van has not been disclosed yet.
