Police have reported that an individual killed in the recent attack on a Jewish synagogue was shot by law enforcement officers. The attacker, identified as Jihad Al-Shamie, a British citizen of Syrian descent, was fatally shot by armed officers shortly after fatally stabbing two men at Heaton Park synagogue in Manchester on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. The victims were named as Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66, with three others sustaining serious injuries.
While an official post-mortem is pending, initial findings reveal that one of the victims had a gunshot wound. The Chief Constable, Sir Stephen Watson, stated that it appears the victim sustained the gunshot wound during the police operation to prevent further harm to the Jewish community. Additionally, one of the hospitalized victims also suffered a gunshot wound, which is believed to be non-life-threatening.
In a related development, two men in their 30s and a woman in her 60s have been arrested on suspicion of involvement in terror-related activities. Prime Minister Keir Starmer visited the scene of the incident, expressing solidarity with the affected community members and first responders.
