The children of a British couple detained in Iran on spying allegations presented a petition at Downing Street today, urging swift action from the UK government. Lindsay and Craig Foreman, aged 53, have been imprisoned in Tehran since January 2025, facing ten-year espionage sentences that they claim are unjust. The couple was arrested during a motorcycle journey around the globe.

Their children Joe Bennett, 31, Toby Rutland, 19, Kieran, 28, and Chelsea Foreman, 30, have gathered over 84,000 signatures seeking their parents’ release. Joe emphasized their determination to continue the fight for justice. The family, along with supporters, including former Tory leader Iain Duncan Smith and various parliamentarians, organized a petition handover and a motorcycle rally to raise awareness of Lindsay and Craig’s plight.

Expressing concern for his parents’ well-being, Joe highlighted the challenging conditions they face in detention, including inadequate food, lack of exercise space, and vermin infestation. He disclosed that Lindsay and Craig are now on a hunger strike to protest the withdrawal of their phone privileges and to demand their release.

Joe, who has dedicated himself to advocating for his parents’ freedom, stressed the urgency of the situation and the need for international pressure on Iran to end arbitrary detentions. Minister Hamish Falconer acknowledged the couple as innocent tourists in Parliament, condemning their imprisonment as appalling and unjustified. The UK Foreign Office reiterated its commitment to securing their safe return home.

MP Tony Vaughan underscored the importance of the government’s proactive efforts in bringing Lindsay and Craig back to the UK, emphasizing the need to address their situation as a hostage crisis orchestrated by Iran. Fellow MP Iain Duncan Smith echoed the sentiment, condemning the wrongful detention and advocating for decisive actions against Iran’s conduct.

Mr. Duncan Smith urged the British government to take a strong stance against Iran by targeting Iranian operatives in the UK if Lindsay and Craig are not released promptly. He emphasized the necessity of protecting British citizens abroad and holding Iran accountable for its actions. The ongoing campaign seeks justice for the Foreman family and sheds light on the broader issue of unjust detentions affecting individuals worldwide.
