A woman has been taken into custody as part of an inquiry into the presumed killing of a six-year-old boy named Kyran Durnin. Kyran, who was last seen alive in June 2022, was officially declared missing towards the end of August 2024. Authorities have apprehended a woman in connection with his disappearance, which has now turned into a murder investigation. The authorities are conducting a search at a residence in Drogheda, County Louth, Ireland, where the woman in her 50s is being detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a station in the eastern region.
The arrest occurred shortly before what would have been Kyran’s 10th birthday. According to reports from The Irish Mirror, the woman in custody was acquainted with Kyran. The investigation is ongoing as stated by a spokesperson from Gardai. Kyran went missing from his residence in Drogheda, Co Louth, in August 2024, and there have been no sightings of him since June 2022, leading to suspicions of his potential demise that same year.
Gardai escalated the case to a murder inquiry in October 2025. A man named Anthony Maguire, aged 36, who was previously arrested in connection with Kyran’s suspected murder, was discovered deceased in December 2024.
