An 86-year-old individual has been apprehended in relation to the historic killings of Harry and Megan Tooze, who were discovered deceased with gunshot injuries at their farm in south Wales back in 1993.
The bodies of Harry and Megan Tooze were found in a cowshed at their farm in Llanharry, near Cardiff, on July 26, 1993. Local residents reported hearing two gunshots but did not raise any concerns at the time due to the farm being operational.
Earlier today, a person was taken into custody by the South Wales Police in connection to the case. The law enforcement agency launched a forensic reexamination of the matter in 2023 with the aim of uncovering fresh evidence.
Detective Superintendent Mark Lewis stated, “While this arrest is a significant advancement in the investigation, our inquiries are ongoing. This case has had a lasting impact, and our goal is to address the lingering questions surrounding their deaths after over 30 years.”
He urged anyone with knowledge about the murders to come forward and cooperate with the authorities, emphasizing the importance of sharing any relevant information, even after such a long period of time.
The couple had left their residence to collect their pensions in Llanharry on the day of the incident. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots around 1:30 pm, but emergency services were not notified as such sounds were considered routine on a farm.
It was only later, when the couple did not respond to a scheduled phone call from their daughter, that law enforcement was alerted.
Upon investigation, the bodies of Harry and Megan Tooze were discovered concealed in a cowshed at Ty Ar y Waun farm; they had both sustained gunshot wounds to the head and were wrapped in carpets.
The daughter’s boyfriend, Jonathan Jones, was initially charged, convicted, and sentenced to life imprisonment in 1995 for the murders. However, his convictions were overturned by the Court of Appeal a year later, with three judges determining his innocence within a short deliberation. The initial trial judge and police handling of the crime scene were criticized in the appeal ruling.
