An Amazon delivery driver is facing allegations of taking a family’s cat but claims the feline is actually his own pet. Joshua Gonzalez maintains that the black-and-grey cat is his, stating it had gone missing from his residence in the same vicinity. He mentioned that he “just grabbed him and walked off,” unaware of being recorded by Brenda Wilson’s doorbell camera in Bakersfield, California.
Joshua, a father, defended his actions, asserting that he only sought to retrieve his cat and return it to its rightful home. He compared his search for the cat to that of any concerned pet owner, emphasizing his joy in reuniting with his beloved pet.
However, Brenda remains adamant that the cat, known as Junie in her family, belongs to them. Despite sharing the video evidence with the local authorities, no legal charges have been pressed against Joshua.
Following the incident, Amazon confirmed that Joshua, an employee of a third-party delivery service, is barred from delivering packages for them. The company stated its cooperation with law enforcement in the ongoing investigation.
Despite the controversy, Joshua has presented documentation indicating his ownership of the cat, citing an adoption date of October 9, 2025. He highlighted specific features of the cat that helped him identify it as his own and emphasized the cat’s comfort and familiarity upon returning home.
The police have reported that the case remains open, with investigations ongoing to resolve the dispute. An Amazon spokesperson reiterated the company’s stance on the matter, emphasizing their collaboration with authorities for further information.
