Tesco has issued a caution that approximately £17 million worth of Clubcard vouchers are approaching expiration by the end of the current month.
The supermarket distributes Clubcard vouchers every three months – specifically in February, May, August, and November – and these vouchers remain valid for a period of two years.
The vouchers set to expire were initially distributed in May 2024 and will lose their value after 11.59pm on May 31. Shoppers at Tesco receive one Clubcard point for every pound spent in-store, or one point for every two liters of fuel purchased at a Tesco fuel station.
In addition to in-store purchases, points can also be accumulated through transactions with Tesco Bank and Tesco Mobile. For instance, using a Clubcard Credit Card at Tesco earns five points for every four pounds spent, or one point for every eight pounds spent elsewhere.
Customers of Tesco Mobile can earn one Clubcard point for each pound spent on monthly bills or top-ups. To redeem a Clubcard voucher, a minimum of 150 points is required, which translates to a voucher worth £1.50 for use at Tesco stores.
By partnering with Rewards Partners such as Pizza Express, Alton Towers, or Hotels.com, Clubcard voucher values can be doubled or tripled, offering more value for money.
If individuals wish to extend the validity of their vouchers, a simple technique involves using a voucher to make a small purchase on the Tesco Clubcard Rewards webpage, with the remaining balance credited back to their Clubcard account.
To maximize the return, it is advised to spend as little as possible, even as low as 50 pence, ensuring the maximum amount is reinstated in the Clubcard account.
For instance, using a £5 Clubcard voucher to make a 50 pence purchase would result in 450 points credited back, equivalent to £4.50. The expiration date for these newly credited vouchers would be set two years from the transaction.
Currently, Tesco boasts a membership exceeding 24 million Clubcard holders.
Shama Wilson, Tesco Group Membership and Loyalty Director, emphasized the significance of utilizing Clubcard vouchers for discounts on dining, savings on various entertainment options, railcards, or hotel bookings to save money during the upcoming period. Wilson urged all Clubcard holders to review their accounts for any undiscovered vouchers that can be utilized.
