The Minnesota Frost has secured the services of captain Kendall Coyne Schofield for the next two years by signing her to a new contract. This move puts to rest any speculation that the 34-year-old might take a break following her recent success in winning an Olympic gold medal with the United States.
Coyne Schofield’s re-signing ensures that the Frost will maintain their core leadership group for the upcoming fourth season. This core, which has been integral to the Frost’s previous Walter Cup triumphs in 2024 and 2025, also includes alternate captains Lee Stecklein and Kelly Pannek.
Expressing her excitement about the contract extension, Coyne Schofield stated, “We’re thrilled to be back for the next two seasons and can’t wait to return for Season 4. I’m ready to put in the work to bring the Walter Cup back to Minnesota.”
Hailing from Chicago, Coyne Schofield boasts an impressive resume as a four-time Olympian and two-time gold medalist. She played a pivotal role in the establishment of the PWHL in the summer of 2023 through negotiations.
In the previous season, Coyne Schofield recorded 12 goals and 23 points in 23 games, despite missing seven games due to an upper-body injury sustained during the Milan-Cortina Games. Her career statistics of 63 points (30 goals, 33 assists) in 77 PWHL games rank her third on the league’s all-time list.
Initially one of the Frost’s foundational player signings, Coyne Schofield’s playing status for this season was uncertain as she remained unsigned, leaving her exposed during the PWHL’s expansion process in June.
With Coyne Schofield back in the fold, the Frost currently have 17 players under contract, including eight members from their previous championship-winning squads. The team finished third in the standings last season and was eliminated in a decisive Game 5 of their semifinal series against eventual champions Montreal.
