An individual sought in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in Niagara Falls on July 16 has been apprehended in Montreal and will be extradited to the city of Ontario.
Josta MacNeal was taken into custody by the Service de police de la Ville de Montreal on Thursday for her alleged involvement in the death of 35-year-old Mitchell Snoddon, according to the Niagara Regional Police Service. MacNeal is facing a charge of second-degree murder.
Initially reported to be 30 years old, MacNeal was identified by the police. Meanwhile, Maaroof Bangi, previously identified as 23, is currently evading authorities.
Given the absence of a recovered firearm, law enforcement in Niagara considers Bangi to be armed and dangerous.
A police press release advised the public not to approach Bangi if spotted and instead immediately contact 911.
Authorities urged Bangi to seek legal counsel and surrender himself to the police.
In their initial statement, Niagara police revealed that two suspects entered an apartment complex on Thorold Stone Road in Niagara Falls just before 9 p.m. ET on July 16 and shot Snoddon.
Following the shooting, Snoddon was transported to a hospital via ambulance but succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
Targeted Nature of the Shooting
While authorities believe the shooting was a targeted attack and not a random act of violence, they cautioned the public to remain vigilant.
Previously, Niagara police released surveillance footage of the two suspects and sought information from the community regarding their whereabouts.
Initially, the suspects were reported to be driving a 2022-2026 Nissan Rogue SUV.
At a later point, the fugitives were spotted in a 2016 Toyota Camry with a cracked windshield and damage on the passenger side front and rear doors, last seen on Highway 45 in Hastings, Ont.
