Macklemore has announced his own tour following his removal as the opening act for Ed Sheeran’s U.S. tour. The rapper plans to donate all proceeds from the shows to support organizations aiding Palestinians.

After venue owners in the U.S. threatened to cancel Sheeran’s shows if Macklemore continued as the opener, he was dropped from the tour, as confirmed by the promoter, Messina Touring Group. Macklemore has been vocal about his pro-Palestinian stance for years, echoing similar sentiments in previous performances.

In response to his removal, Macklemore emphasized the significance of diverse voices on stage and announced upcoming performances in Dublin, Paris, and London under the Free Palestine Tour banner. The rapper also hinted at future U.S. dates, highlighting the involvement of other artists who stand in solidarity with the Palestinian cause.

The tour’s proceeds will benefit various Palestinian aid organizations, including Gaza Soup Kitchen, Palestinian Youth Movement, Jewish Voice for Peace, and UNRWA USA. The decision to support these causes comes after Macklemore’s recent controversy during Sheeran’s Loop Tour, where he faced backlash for expressing pro-Palestinian sentiments onstage.

Macklemore’s departure from the Loop Tour led to other supporting acts and the backing band withdrawing from scheduled performances in solidarity. Ed Sheeran addressed the situation, revealing that venue owners threatened to cancel shows if Macklemore remained. The ongoing developments have sparked a broader conversation on activism within the music industry.

In a gesture of goodwill, Macklemore pledged to donate all his earnings from the tour to humanitarian organizations aiding Gaza. This move challenged billionaire Robert Kraft, who was involved in the decision to drop Macklemore, to make a similar contribution. Kraft subsequently pledged $2 million to support the region, matching Sheeran’s own donation.

As the controversy unfolds, Sheeran publicly apologized to fans during his first tour stop without Macklemore, expressing his reluctance to be viewed as an activist musician. The incident has showcased the intersection of music, activism, and political discourse, sparking conversations on freedom of expression and support for humanitarian causes.
