Alex Lamontagne made a memorable Vancouver debut by scoring two goals as the Rise defeated the Ottawa Rapid 5-1 in a Northern Super League match on Saturday. Anna Bout, Maithe Lopez, and Camila Reyes also found the back of the net for the Rise, who scored four goals in the second half to secure the victory at TD Place.
Elise Bell managed to score a consolation goal for the Rapid in the 82nd minute, breaking Jessica Wulf’s shutout attempt. The Rise’s dominant performance moved them into fourth place in the league standings, one point ahead of the Halifax Tide. They now have 22 points from seven wins, one draw, and nine losses. The Ottawa Rapid, despite the loss, maintain their top spot with 33 points from 10 wins, three draws, and four losses.
The Rise controlled possession slightly with 53% compared to the Rapid’s 47% and outshot their opponents 17-8, with 11 shots on target. Vancouver also earned more corner kicks, taking four out of the seven awarded during the game. Both teams received two yellow cards each.
In their upcoming matches, the Rise will face the Calgary Wild on Saturday, August 29, while the Rapid will visit AFC Toronto on Sunday, August 30.
