The Vancouver Rise have received reinforcements this week as they gear up for a crucial match against the Halifax Tides. The Northern Super League club has welcomed two new defenders to their squad to strengthen their lineup.
Chantelle Swaby, who previously played for Leicester City in the Women’s Super League, and Kaela Hansen, formerly with NSL side AFC Toronto, are the latest additions to the Rise. Head coach Anja Heiner-Moller praised both players for their unique qualities that will enhance the team’s performance.
Swaby, aged 28, brings a wealth of experience from playing in various leagues around the world, including the National Women’s Soccer League, the Scottish Women’s Premier League, and France’s top division. She is known for her composure and leadership on the field, qualities that will benefit the Rise in challenging game situations.
On the other hand, 26-year-old Hansen is excited to return home to Vancouver. The Burnaby native expressed her enthusiasm for playing in front of a hometown crowd and being closer to her family once again, making her signing with the Rise a special moment.
These signings come following the departure of Mariah Lee, who recently retired from professional soccer to pursue a career in law. Additionally, goalkeeper Kirstin Tynan has been loaned to the Halifax Tides for the remainder of the season.
With the Rise aiming to secure a playoff spot, sitting five points behind Halifax in the standings, the team is focused on making a strong push towards the post-season.
