Three family members caused chaos at a funeral wake, resulting in a lorry driver receiving nine stitches for a severe facial injury. The incident escalated into a violent confrontation involving pint glass throwing and eye gouging at mourners following the funeral service. The father had a history of violence at memorial gatherings and was scolded by a judge for the disgraceful brawl.

The Redmonds, residing in Prenton, Wirral, attended the wake at a Golf Club on October 17, 2024, leading to the altercation. Witnesses noted that the family members were not appropriately dressed for the occasion, and their connection to the deceased was unclear. The wake turned chaotic when staff alerted to shouting in the bar area as last orders were called.

The situation escalated as arguments ensued, leading to physical altercations involving the Redmonds and other attendees. A large-scale fight broke out, with one of the sons reportedly throwing a pint glass that struck a staff member, causing injury. Witnesses described instances of eye gouging and violent behavior by the family members towards other attendees.

The aftermath left several individuals injured, including the lorry driver who required stitches for his facial injury and had to take time off work due to glass fragments in his eye. The victim expressed the emotional toll of the incident, affecting his social interactions and causing anxiety in public places.

Despite their remorse and lack of previous convictions, the Redmonds faced legal consequences for their actions. The father received a suspended prison sentence, while the sons were given community orders and assigned community service. Additionally, they were ordered to compensate one of the victims for the harm caused during the brawl.

The judge condemned the family’s behavior, emphasizing the shameful nature of the event that turned a solemn occasion into a chaotic and violent situation. He acknowledged their remorse but highlighted the serious injuries inflicted on the victims and the need for accountability for their actions.
