A 4.1 magnitude earthquake struck a popular holiday spot in Spain, causing concern among residents and tourists in the region. The tremor, which occurred in Murcia, led to numerous calls to emergency services. The quake was felt in neighboring areas such as Alicante, Benidorm, and Albacete.

The epicenter of the earthquake was in the town of Librilla at a depth of approximately 3 miles, with Murcia located about 18 miles away. Despite the significant seismic activity in the area, no personal or material damage has been reported so far. The National Geographic Institute of Spain highlighted that this earthquake is the strongest one in the past six months.

Southern Spain, particularly regions like Andalusia and Murcia, is at a higher risk of earthquakes due to the collision zone between the Eurasian and Nubian plates. This convergence, which previously shaped geological features like the Atlas Mountains and the Alps, is currently evident in southern Spain through the fault systems of the Betic Cordillera.

In the past, Spain experienced a devastating earthquake in 2011 in Lorca, resulting in casualties and extensive property damage. The region remains vigilant due to its susceptibility to seismic events caused by tectonic plate movements.
