A woman discovered her boyfriend was a registered sex offender during a holiday trip to Turkey. Daniel Greaves, aged 34 and from Grimsby, had concealed his past conviction for engaging in sexual communications with a child from his new partner. This conviction led to a two-year community order and placement on the Sex Offenders Register at Grimsby Crown Court in December 2024. Additionally, he was subjected to conditions of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order prohibiting unsupervised contact with individuals under 16.

Greaves confessed to violating the Sexual Harm Prevention Order in January and February of the current year. According to prosecutor Craig Lowe at Grimsby Crown Court, in January, Greaves and his girlfriend took two children to a local pub for lunch. In February, during a visit to the circus, Greaves was left alone with the children when his girlfriend went to the restroom.

The situation came to light when the couple faced difficulties entering Turkey for their vacation, prompting the woman to learn about Greaves’ criminal history and alert the authorities. Greaves had failed to disclose his offenses to anyone and was described as a registered sex offender by Mr. Lowe. His past crimes involved communicating with individuals posing as young girls online, where he solicited inappropriate photos and suggested sexual encounters.

During the court proceedings, Greaves expressed genuine remorse through a letter to the judge, highlighting that there was no harm caused during the outings with the children in public settings. Judge Richard Woolfall emphasized that Greaves had narrowly avoided more severe charges for his past communications. The judge emphasized the strict conditions of the court order, particularly the prohibition on contact with minors, which Greaves had violated by engaging in a relationship without disclosing his criminal history. As a result, Greaves was sentenced to 10 months in prison for breaching the Sexual Harm Prevention Order, with Judge Woolfall underscoring the importance of such orders in safeguarding children.
