The World Cup final, known for its pure essence of sportsmanship, took an unexpected turn when FIFA decided to enhance the halftime experience with entertainment resembling that of a grand opening at a shopping center.

Prior to Spain’s victory celebration, fans were subjected to a halftime show featuring a mix of performances that seemed more fitting for a UFC event or a political rally, with Donald Trump making a grandiose appearance. This transformation of the World Cup into a spectacle of grandeur and commercialism showcased a trend towards heightened extravagance and sponsor integration, overshadowing the essence of the game itself.

FIFA’s introduction of prolonged hydration breaks during matches, seemingly timed to maximize advertising revenue, disrupted the natural flow of the game. While player welfare was cited as the reason, it appeared that commercial interests took precedence over the game’s integrity.

The halftime show during the final, criticized by Wayne Rooney as subpar, featured global icons like Madonna, Justin Bieber, Ronaldo, and Ronaldinho alongside elaborate stage setups, creating a chaotic and over-the-top production that left little room for the actual football to shine.

The excessive and gaudy halftime entertainment, coupled with Argentina’s aggressive and unsportsmanlike conduct during the match, highlighted a departure from the traditional values of football. FIFA’s failure to address such behavior with appropriate measures raised concerns about the organization’s commitment to upholding respect and fair play in the sport.

Furthermore, Trump’s controversial presence and disruptive behavior, met with widespread boos from the audience, added another layer of drama to the event. His reluctance to leave the field post-match, overshadowing Spain’s triumph, symbolized an intrusion of politics and showmanship into the realm of sports.

In this spectacle of misplaced priorities and inflated egos, the true essence of football, characterized by skill, passion, and sportsmanship, was overshadowed by a circus of excessive commercialization, celebrity appearances, and political theatrics. The World Cup final, meant to be a celebration of the beautiful game, became a platform for chaos and self-indulgence, tarnishing the spirit of competition and camaraderie.
