A man previously convicted of sexual offenses against women on the London Underground was caught on camera breaking down in tears during a police interview after making violent threats to British Transport Police (BTP) staff over the phone.
Mansoor Ahmed, 31, from West London, had served a two-year prison sentence for the assaults. On May 27, he called the BTP First Contact Centre, referencing his crime, and verbally abused the call handler for publicizing his crimes and image.
Expressing anger at the public exposure of his crimes, Ahmed threatened to harm BTP personnel at rail stations, making explicit threats of violence. Detectives swiftly located and arrested him on May 29, with Ahmed audibly emotional during his police questioning, acknowledging the repercussions of his actions.
Facing more legal consequences, Ahmed confessed to feeling overwhelmed by negative online publicity labeling him as a “predator” alongside his photograph. His outburst stemmed from the dissemination of his criminal history by BTP.
After being taken into custody, Ahmed was detained until his court appearance, where he received a six-month prison sentence. BTP Detective Constable Lee Smith condemned Ahmed’s behavior, emphasizing the severity of his threats and the swift action taken to prevent harm to officers or the public.
The incident underscores BTP’s commitment to addressing and deterring abusive conduct towards its personnel, ensuring a safe environment for all involved.
