A family in California chose to sleep in their car to stay close to their daughter who was viciously attacked by a group of dogs. The seven-year-old girl, known as Patricia, endured severe injuries to her scalp and legs during the incident in the Corning area of Tehama County on June 27, as reported by the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office.

Following the “horrific” attack, an online fundraiser initiated by Patricia’s grandmother, Monica Edmiston, disclosed that Patricia was in critical condition. The fundraiser detailed the extent of her injuries, stating that her scalp was torn off, and she sustained multiple wounds across her body.

After being rushed to a local hospital and later airlifted to a trauma center for specialized medical care, Patricia underwent emergency surgery at UC Davis Medical Centre in Sacramento.

An update on Patricia’s condition on Monday indicated her improvement, describing her as still fearful but resilient. The family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and donations received, with the fundraiser exceeding $4,100.

Ms. Edmiston highlighted the family’s challenging circumstances, mentioning that Patricia’s father and siblings resorted to sleeping in their car near the hospital in Sacramento. The community of Corning rallied behind the family, showcasing immense love and support during this difficult time.

The Corning Union Elementary School District, where Patricia is a student, extended well wishes for her swift recovery via a supportive message on Facebook.

The Tehama County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the seizure of six dogs suspected to be involved in the attack, which were taken into custody as evidence at the Tehama County Animal Shelter. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
