A well-known figure from the West End has shared details of an alleged private relationship with Prince Edward.
Ruthie Henshall, aged 59, has disclosed various aspects of their five-year connection in her latest book, “The Showgirl and the Prince”. She uncovered occurrences such as finding “HRH Edward” embroidered into the prince’s undergarments and leaving him feeling groggy the following day.
According to the actress, the narrative of their relationship began when the prince, then 23 years old, transitioned from the Royal Marines to a job as a production assistant at Andrew Lloyd Webber’s theatrical establishment.
During this period, his departure from military service garnered considerable attention. One account reported: “His father, the distinguished Honorary Captain General, displayed visible displeasure regarding the potential decision, reducing his son to tears. Prince Edward was departing from tradition: his resignation marked a unique event within Britain’s Royal Family history.”
Transitioning to the theater world, their bond evolved from friendship to romance as they spent more time together, as per Ruthie. She mentioned how she would consistently gravitate towards Edward whenever he was present, attributing this behavior in part to his royal status.
One of their early rendezvous was at Buckingham Palace, where an unexpected revelation occurred. She noted: “I later found out that all his undergarments had personalized nametags. Each piece was labeled ‘HRH Edward’.”
However, Ruthie justified this practice by explaining that the laundry was handled by Palace staff, necessitating clear identification of each individual’s clothing.
Serialized in the Mail, the book also mentioned Edward’s desire to progress their relationship at a measured pace. Following their initial passionate embrace, he composed an unexpected letter to Ruthie.
She recounted: “He corresponded with me, expressing the importance of patience before intimacy, despite his attraction towards me. He emphasized the significance of not rushing into things and jeopardizing something special.”
