A tragic incident occurred in North Tyneside as a house fire claimed the lives of a man and a woman. The fire broke out in a residence on Cragside Avenue in North Shields, prompting a response from fire crews around 3:30 am. Despite efforts to rescue the occupants, two individuals, a man in his 40s and a woman in her 70s, could not be saved.
Northumbria Police reported that the man and woman were found inside the house and were treated by emergency services, but unfortunately, both passed away at the scene. Another man in his 70s was also discovered in the property and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
As a precautionary measure, two neighboring properties were evacuated, and a cordon remains in place. Authorities are continuing their investigations into the incident. Detective Inspector Barry McAtominey expressed condolences to the families affected and urged anyone with information to come forward.
The Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service confirmed their response to the fire incident, which involved multiple crews from different stations. The North East Ambulance Service also dispatched resources to the scene, providing medical assistance to those involved.
