A shooting incident in Birmingham has left a teenager critically injured, as per the local authorities. The 16-year-old boy was swiftly taken to a hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds in an attack on Bowyer Road near St Saviours Road in the Alum Rock neighborhood around 5:30 pm on Wednesday. Although the shooting occurred close to a mosque, the police stated that there is currently no indication of any connection to it.

Law enforcement officials mentioned that the investigation is in its early stages, with officers present at the scene conducting forensic examinations, reviewing CCTV footage, and interviewing individuals in the vicinity. Concerned citizens are being reassured that local officers will be available to address any anxieties.

Earlier today, a significant emergency service presence was observed on Bowyer Road, with reports of a police cordon in place, as detailed by Birmingham Live. Meanwhile, Councillors Nosheen Khalid and Shaukat Mahmood issued a plea urging the public to refrain from visiting the area and spreading unfounded rumors online. They expressed deep sadness over the incident and extended thoughts and prayers to the victim, their family, and all those impacted by the event.

In light of the ongoing police activity, the upper section of Bowyer Road has been closed, and residents are advised to avoid using it as a route to St Saviour’s Road or Arden Road until further notice, following any indicated diversions. The councillors emphasized the importance of unity, respect, and avoiding speculative discussions or sharing of sensitive content from the scene, emphasizing that unverified information could intensify distress and impede the police inquiry.

The statement concluded by urging the public to allow emergency services the necessary space to carry out their duties and to keep those affected in their thoughts and prayers.
