A teenager suffered a serious infection in his leg after a swimming incident in Colliers Moss Park, Cheshire, during a heatwave. Jacob Butler, 14, accidentally cut his leg on a piece of wire while swimming and developed a flesh-eating infection. Despite a fisherman’s quick intervention to help stop the bleeding, Jacob ended up in the hospital, where doctors had to perform emergency surgery to remove the infected tissue.

Following initial treatment, Jacob was sent home, but the infection resurfaced weeks later, leading to a second surgery to remove more infected flesh. His mother, Rebecca, described the situation as terrifying, with doctors having to remove a significant portion of tissue from his leg to prevent the infection from spreading further.

Rebecca emphasized the importance of water safety and shared her son’s story on an Instagram page called JacobsWaterWarning. Jacob, now on a path to recovery, has warned others about the dangers of swimming in open water, urging caution to avoid similar incidents. The family’s experience has prompted Rebecca to advocate for better water safety measures and awareness campaigns to prevent such tragedies from happening to others.
