A significant fire has erupted at a hospital in Germany, resulting in the tragic deaths of at least two individuals and necessitating the evacuation of multiple patients from the premises.
Authorities have disclosed that over 30 individuals sustained injuries in the fire, which started at the LUP Clinic, a five-story building, early this morning at approximately 4:30 a.m. local time.
Initial accounts suggest that the fire originated in the roof of the radiology facility, prompting the evacuation of the affected building and adjacent structures. However, conflicting reports indicate that the blaze may have started in a patient’s room.
The two casualties were identified as patients receiving care at the hospital, as reported by Germany’s dpa news agency.
Following the incident, patients were seen outside the hospital in their night attire earlier today, according to local source Nordkurier. Some patients were also safely evacuated from the building in their hospital beds by emergency responders.
Situated in Ludwigslust, the LUP Clinic stands as the sole healthcare facility in the town, providing essential medical services to the region with its 160-bed capacity at Neustädter Straße 1.
