A mother claimed that her daughter, a seven-year-old girl, suffered painful blisters after a “squishy” NeeDoh toy exploded onto her hands. This incident is part of a concerning trend where children have been getting burns by heating similar toys in microwaves to make them softer and easier to squeeze. The mother clarified that her daughter did not heat up the toy but got burned after the seal broke, causing the liquid inside to leak onto her hand.

Following the incident, the girl developed blisters on her hands, prompting her mother to seek medical help. They visited Princess Royal Hospital in Telford, Shropshire, on June 22, where her wounds were treated and dressed. After consulting with Birmingham Children’s Hospital, the girl had her blisters removed the next day and is now undergoing daily doctor visits for dressing changes.

The mother described how her daughter, who loves the NeeDoh toy, alerted her to the spilled liquid that caused the burns. Despite initial efforts to treat the injury at home, the pain persisted, leading to a visit to the hospital. Due to the lack of a burns unit in Telford, they had to go to Birmingham for specialized treatment.

The exclusive UK distributor for NeeDoh, Bigjigs Toys, is investigating the incident. They emphasized the seriousness of such issues and mentioned the presence of counterfeit products in the market, indicating the need to verify the authenticity of the toy involved in the incident.
