Two sisters were seen smiling as they were taken into custody by the police following the brutal killing of a mother of five. Amaya Cookie Diaz, 19, and Kitty Mia Diaz, 21, were apprehended in Del Rio, Texas, close to the Mexican border, shortly after the fatal stabbing of Caroline Peña. Video footage captured Kitty grinning as officers escorted her to a police car. Amaya was also caught giggling and telling someone to stop recording.
Another individual, Kyandra Renee Faz, 21, was also arrested in connection with the murder, as confirmed by the Del Rio Police Department. The incident took place on June 25, 2026, at around 2:10 p.m. when officers responded to a report of a woman with multiple stab wounds at Val Verde Regional Medical Center. The victim was rushed to a medical facility in San Antonio due to the severity of her injuries.
The motive behind the killing has not been disclosed publicly yet. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and conducting interviews with witnesses. Kitty Mia Diaz, Amaya Cookie Diaz, and Kyandra Renee Faz were all taken into custody without any issues.
Tragically, the victim succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead around 9 p.m. on the same day. Following her death, Faz and the Diaz sisters were charged with murder. They are currently being held at the GEO Correctional Facility awaiting legal proceedings.
