The US Central Command retaliated against Tehran for allegedly attacking a commercial oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz using drones. Trump directed the US military to strike 10 targets in Iran. American military aircraft targeted Iranian military infrastructure, communication systems, air defense sites, drone storage facilities, and minelayer capabilities in response to the attack on a merchant vessel.

The targeted vessel, M/T Kiku, a Panama-flagged tanker carrying over two million barrels of crude oil, was attacked by Iran.
