The head of the American task force for the current World Cup believes that the United States has the capability to host a 64-team tournament and may consider bidding for the 2038 event. Presently, the US is co-hosting the tournament with Canada and Mexico. After Europe, Africa, and South America take on hosting duties in 2030, and Saudi Arabia hosts in 2034, there is potential for North America to bid for the tournament in 12 years.
Andrew Giuliani, the executive director of the White House Task Force on the World Cup, expressed confidence in the US’s ability to host the event in the future. He mentioned discussions with President Trump and other officials, highlighting the country’s welcoming nature and excellent infrastructure.
Giuliani emphasized that the US has the necessary stadiums and infrastructure in place at a relatively lower cost compared to other host nations. He hinted at the possibility of the tournament expanding to 64 teams and stated that the United States could handle such a scenario.
While the tournament faced concerns over the impact of immigration policies on fans, the overall atmosphere in the host cities has been positive. Giuliani expressed satisfaction with the tournament’s initial weeks and the global admiration for the US during its 250th anniversary.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino confirmed that President Trump is expected to attend the final in New Jersey on July 19. Despite Trump’s absence from previous fixtures, Giuliani hinted at the possibility of surprises involving the president.
